iPhone 14 Plus review: The smart choice

The iPhone 14 Plus offers a large screen and the luxury of good battery life, and that’s enough for most. Read our review.

before bombing U.S hatefully, there’s a reason we think the iPhone 14 Plus is a smart choice. In fact, there are a multitude of reasons why the iPhone 14 Plus may be the best single iPhone to buy until the iPhone 15 Plus drops. Surely, at a starting price of Rs 89,900, it is quite an expensive phone and compared to its Android rivals, it seems boring. The dated design also adds to the misery, pushing customers towards the iPhone 14 Pro. The iPhone 14 Plus is actually doing its job well: It’s not a flop for Apple.

Look smart and it’s not a failure for you either. It fills the huge price gap between the iPhone 14 Rs. 79,900 price and the iPhone 14 Pro Rs. 130,000 price. This one is crucial and could make many consider it a smarter choice. you save enough money and you get Apple’s largest iPhone screen. What’s wrong with that, right? To nail down the idea, I spent two weeks with the iPhone 14 Plus to find out.

Technically, the iPhone 14 Plus is a new phone in a long time: It has the 6.7-inch screen from the Pro Max. However, Apple did the minimum, or almost any, to the design of the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus is just a bigger version of it. So the excitement of the new phone is missing; my colleagues in the office mistook it for the iPhone 13. Same diagonal camera lenses, same flat sides, same old notch—iPhone fans have seen it.

On the “plus” side, this is still an attractive phone to look at, especially in the right colors. My Purple variant is pretty and I like the Product Red variant. As long as the notch isn’t visible, this is a modern-looking large smartphone that commands attention. Coming from the iPhone 14 Pro Max, I love the matte aluminum rails, glossy back, and lightweight build; feels light compared to the Pro Max. It’s also durable, my car the keys and my irresponsible colleagues couldn’t scratch the phone or chip the paint yet.

This is one of the main reasons why you might want to consider the iPhone 14 Plus. At 6.7 inches, this is a large “normal size” screen that uses a beautifully tuned OLED display of very high resolution. either under the sun or inside your living room, the iPhone 14 Plus screen is easy on the eyes. The colors look natural and the brightness is excellent; the typical iPhone tuning. If you love watching movies or scrolling InstagramYou are going to love this screen. Except…

The update rate! 60Hz refresh rate is fine for everyday use and eventually you get used to it. But for a phone that costs almost Rs. 1 lakh, this feels unfair. Even the cheapest Android phones have 120Hz OLED screens these days! And no, I don’t see any of the “Apple’s-60Hz-is-better-than-Android’s-120Hz” notions. He just seems nervous. The notch only adds to the discomfort.

we are going to charge Apple guilty of giving us an old chipset in its flagship phone: the height of cost-cutting. But once the irritation of missing out on the new stuff wears off, I see no reason not to pick this iPhone for its performance. The A15 Bionic is still a fast chipset, after all, those iPhone 13 The professional models are still going strong and doing everything very well. With a 5-core GPU and 6 GB of RAM, the iPhone 14 Plus has the best A15 Bionic variant and works as advertised.

Apple’s stronghold is its optimization and iOS 16 on this iPhone works flawlessly, except for a few bugs. I have done everything in my power to have an “Ahaaaan!” moment with the A15 Bionic, trying to see if it has problems, I have only failed here. Whether it’s the incredibly complex apex legends or editing 4K footage in iMovie, this iPhone took it all like a pro. It stays cool and continues to handle all kinds of loads with ease. games like Mobile COD and Apex Legends just works at its best.

As for iOS 16, the customization options have made it an interesting operating system to choose from. That, along with Apple’s tight-knit ecosystem, ensures a great experience with AirPods, apple watchand the Mac. You only miss the Always On Display and that’s not a big deal in my opinion.

The iPhone 14 Plus also impressed me with its speaker performance. Audio output is loud and there’s enough depth to enjoy bass, but everything is tuned for higher volume. Then there’s network performance, which is good enough. In Myself Jio 4G LTE network, the iPhone 14 Plus kept the network but dropped it in the basement (Google Pixel 7 Pro held on to the network). There is also support for 5G, but Apple will release the update in December 2022 to enable 5G reception.

Whether it’s still photography or videography, the iPhone 14 Plus is simply brilliant if you want powerful cameras. The 12 MP primary and 12 MP ultra-wide camera sensors are borrowed from the iPhone 13 Pro, but fit even better thanks to the Photonic Engine.

Like the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the main camera is tuned to keep colors closer to natural tones, high brightness, crushed shadows, and detail extraction. For social media and phone screens these photos look great – everyone on my team loved the Diwali photos taken on iPhone. However, pixel watchers pointed out the overly sharp look and how the Pixel 7 Pro creates contrast while keeping skin tones more natural.

This also applies to selfies, where photos appear too sharp and skin tones look unnatural. In low light, it only gets worse. Night photos are sharp enough and I love how well exposures are held. Portrait mode also suffers from uneven subject cropping, but I love the foreground blur effect. Unlike the iPhone 14 Pro Max, there’s no 2X lossless digital zoom present, and the lack of a telephoto camera restricts you to blurry zoomed photos. For general still photography, this is a great camera for both casual and professional photographers.

As for videography, there is no competition: the iPhone 14 Plus dominates. Both 4K and 1080p videos have great clarity, wide dynamic range, good noise suppression, excellent stabilization, and smooth processing. Cinematic mode is most useful in 4K, while Action mode is useful with its great stabilization and usable 2.5L resolution, although it uses the lower ultra-wide camera to record it.

Battery duration

for a sub $1 lakh of phone, the iPhone 14 Plus offers great battery life. With my moderate use of office calls, emails, texts, occasional photos, and 2-3 hours of browsing, the iPhone 14 Plus lasts me a full day and stretches into the next afternoon. The best battery life on any iPhone? I do not think. Battery life is more on par with the iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPhone 13 Pro Max, which isn’t a bad deal. Movie and selfie lovers can quickly drain the battery, but even at its worst, the iPhone 14 Plus is more than a 1-day phone. Charging is a slow process here, with my 30W Apple charger taking just over an hour from 30 per cent charge. MagSafe wireless charging is a boon if you have that magnetic drive with you.

The iPhone 14 Plus is controversial in the way it is designed, and therefore may not be an easy choice for many. There’s a large group of people who love modern frills like a high-refresh-rate display without a huge notch, a triple-camera setup with a zoom camera, a fast charging time of less than 30 minutes, and an eye-catching design, especially when wondering. the price is around Rs. 1 lakh iPhone 14 Plus has none of that and thus may push buyers towards a Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus or a Google Pixel 7 Pro. Don’t rule out the iPhone 14 Pro for the rich!

But there’s also a group of people who just want a solid iPhone experience; Just a big screen would be a big help. This is what the iPhone 14 Plus is designed for. The user experience is refined and you can enjoy the Apple ecosystem with the luxury of a 6.7-inch screen. That, and the presence of brilliant cameras, fast and reliable performance, stellar battery life, and a sub- $Starting price of 1 lakh to top it off: The iPhone 14 Plus is the smartest iPhone you can buy today if you’re not looking for geeky, gimmicky stuff.
