Whether it’s the Galaxy S22, S22 pluseither S22Ultra, there is a lot to like about these phones. The Ultra model, in particular, marks the return of the S Pen slot for the first time since the Galaxy Note 20 series. But what if you want something a little different? Here are some of the best Galaxy S22 series alternatives to consider.

The best Galaxy S22 series alternatives

Publisher’s note: We will regularly update this list of the best Samsung Galaxy S22 alternatives as new devices are released.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series

Why we choose it: True Samsung fans won’t settle for any other brand. If you want to save money while staying within the Samsung ecosystem, the previous generation is the way to go.

The Galaxy S21 series comes with a Snapdragon 888 SoC (Exynos 2100 outside the US), 120Hz OLED panel, wireless charging, and water resistance. Samsung’s Ultra model is the most impressive of all, with a 5,000 mAh battery, a QHD+ screen, a 108 MP main camera and a pair of telephoto lenses (3x and 10x). It’s even compatible with the S Pen, albeit without the integrated slot of the S22 Ultra.

Best of all, Samsung now offers the same four years of OS updates for the series as the Galaxy S22 family, along with five years of security patches. So you should expect these phones to get new features for a while.

Apple iPhone 14 Series

Why we choose it: Apple is Samsung’s main competitor, so it makes sense that we put the iPhone flagships on this list. They’re also one of the few options on the list if you want a non-Android smartphone.

Apple and Samsung have been archrivals in the smartphone segment for years, and this trend continues with the iPhone 14 series. You have the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus as the cheapest models, while the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max require a lot of cash.

Verdict: iPhone 14 review | iPhone 14 Pro Review

The Standard and Plus models look more like the updated iPhone 13 phones. They offer the same A15 processor as last year’s phones, a similar 12MP dual rear camera system, and the same wide notch. The Pro devices, meanwhile, have an A16 processor, a 48MP main camera as part of a triple camera setup, and a pill-shaped cutout display dubbed Dynamic Island. The Pro phones even offer 120Hz displays, while the standard models stick with 60Hz panels.

Otherwise, the iPhone 14 family also offers IP68 water/dust resistance, wireless charging, and access to Apple’s ecosystem of apps and services. Apple is also the only player that outperforms Samsung when it comes to software updates.

Google Pixel 7 range

Why we choose it: While Samsung makes fantastic devices, they can be a bit much in terms of software. Google’s own Pixel phones offer a similar high-end experience while keeping the user interface simple and clean. You’ll also enjoy much faster updates.

the Pixel Phones 7 they are probably the best alternatives to the Galaxy S22 that you can find. The Tensor G2 processor is actually made by Samsung and uses a Samsung modem, although it has Google’s own AI silicon and isn’t as powerful as the S22 chips. You can also expect a solid update commitment here, though it beats three OS updates out of four from Samsung.

Our verdict: Google Pixel 7 Pro review

Google’s standard model is $200 cheaper than the base S22 at launch, but still offers a much larger battery (4,355mAh), water resistance, and wireless charging. In saying that, the Pixel 7 misses out on the standard features of the S22, like a telephoto camera, a 120Hz refresh rate (expect 90Hz here), and a top-tier processor.

The Pixel 7 Pro ups the ante over the Pixel 7 by bringing a 5,000mAh battery, a 120Hz QHD+ display, and a 48MP 5x periscope camera. Best of all, the price of $899 is $100 cheaper than the S22 Plus and $300 cheaper than the S22 Ultra. However, the S22 Ultra includes two telephoto cameras (3x and 10x), making it a more complete camera system on paper.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Why we choose it: The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is a great phone at a very reasonable price. You get powerful specs, all the best Samsung features, and a good camera experience.

the Galaxy S21 FE it’s another phone worth considering as it launched in January 2022 after a months delay. The device includes Samsung’s One UI skin and three years of OS updates, making it one of the best Galaxy S22 alternatives out of the box.

Verdict: Samsung Galaxy S21 FE review

Samsung’s latest FE phone also has a larger battery than the standard Galaxy S22 (4,500 mAh). Still, one downside is using the Snapdragon 888 or Exynos 2100 chipset compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Exynos 2200 SoCs in the S22 range. But both chipsets are still powerful in 2022 and should deliver great gaming performance.

Other notable features include a 120Hz FHD+ OLED display, 25W wired charging, 15W wireless charging, and a solid triple rear camera system (12MP, 12MP, and 8MP).

OnePlus 10 Pro

Why we choose it: Once known as the flagship killer, OnePlus continues to make great devices (albeit not as affordable anymore). The OnePlus 10 Pro offers a solid experience and high-end specs.

the OnePlus 10 Pro it was first launched in China but only launched in global markets after Samsung phones. However, this device is definitely one of the best alternatives in the Galaxy S22 series.

The OnePlus 2022 device packs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, a 6.7-inch 120Hz (QHD+) OLED display, and a 5,000mAh battery. This lines up well with the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But the OnePlus phone also offers 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, beating Samsung’s devices.

Verdict: OnePlus 10 Pro Review

In terms of photography, you’ll get a 48MP main shooter, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and an 8MP 3.3X telephoto camera. In other words, the phone loses out to the S22 Ultra on paper when it comes to zoom capabilities. The rest of the package and OnePlus’ three-year upgrade commitment make it a great alternative to Samsung’s flagships.

Samsung Galaxy ZFlip 4

Why we choose it: The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is worth a look if you like Samsung’s flagship experience but want it foldable. Most of the compromises are worth it for the form factor.

Do you like Samsung’s high-end phones but want something that stands out from the rest? So he Galaxy ZFlip 4 it could be one of the best alternatives in the Galaxy S22 series due to its foldable design.

Verdict: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 Review

The Z Flip 4 features a clamshell design with a small external screen for alerts, media controls, and camera previews. However, open up the device and a foldable 6.7-inch display is on offer here. Samsung also allows you to partially fold the device to prop it up, serving as a tripod for photography or viewing content.

A Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor means this phone is actually a bit more powerful than the S22 series. But that 3,700mAh battery means you should expect similar stamina to the base S22. You also miss out on a telephoto camera here.
