Severance Season 2 is scheduled to continue the story of Lumon Industries in Apple TV Plus early. The next entry in the sci-fi thriller series will unravel more of the existential mysteries at play and the controversial medical procedure that renders employees unable to remember their lives outside the office walls. Unsurprisingly, given how great the first season was, we can’t wait to see what’s to come in its second outing.
Season 2 is set to pick up from one of the best season 1 cliffhangers in recent memory. Breaking off is a show that masterfully unites complex and conflicted characters in a grim office satire. It’s a series that grew in scope and ambition with each creepy episode, like the endless corridors of Lumon’s office, always longer, darker, and more unnerving than you’d expect.
Compensation is possibly best apple tv show to date (although your feelings about it may depend on whether ted lasso already has your heart). He is able to wring a laugh out of painful corporate banalities, while also bringing them to their most terrifying conclusions, as we see dehumanized and psychologically tortured workers offered up on the altar of CEO worship.
But there’s still a lot we don’t know, including exactly when Severance season 2 will land. However, with the second season being greenlit in April 2022, and with filming already underway, we’re sure to hear more information soon. Here’s everything we know about Severance season 2 so far.

The first season took around a year to complete production and release on Apple TV Plus. Given that principal photography still has six months to go, and the fact that the show will need a lengthy post-production phase, we’ll likely wait until late 2023 to see the next installment. Here’s hoping that’s the case.

There were a lot of recurring and guest characters in the first season of Severance, so we might see some of those people return for their next outing. However, Apple has yet to confirm which of them might return or if new actors have been hired to play new characters.
However, there will be eight new faces among the Season 2 cast. the hollywood reporter (opens in a new tab) (THR), this octet of big-name stars have joined Severance’s roster in undisclosed roles:

- Bob Balaban (The French Dispatch)
- Robby Benson (Beauty and the Beast)
- Stefano Carannante (Miribilia)

speaking to THR (opens in a new tab) for a season 1 finale post-mortem piece, director/producer Ben Stiller previously suggested he had a lot of actors in mind for potential season 2 roles, saying, “There’s a lot to me, people like Christopher Guest I guess ‘Wow , that would be awesome if one day I could be a part of the show.” It’s fun when you have a show like this that lets people in for an episode or two, but also fits into Severance’s world.”
However, creator Dan Erickson wants the cast of Severance to become an A-list celebrity, joking with THR that “if Barack Obama is [there at the 2022 Emmys], I’m going to see if he wants a role on this show. I think it would be really good, it would bring some seriousness.”
Breakup season 2 plot
Major Severance season 1 spoilers follow.
So what’s going on in Severance? The show is set in Lumon Industries, a shadowy corporate organization that has figured out a way to split a person’s psyche into two: an ‘innie’ who works at the Lumon facility, and an ‘outie’ who never has to work a day. in their life.
The downside, of course, is that the ‘innie’ who does all the work experiences an endless nine-to-five loop, never leaving the office and being doomed to complete pointless, obtuse tasks over and over again for the eternity. And it doesn’t take long for some employees to take issue with such a soul-destroying Kafkaesque experiment.
Mark Scout initially teams up with Lumon to escape the crippling pain of losing his wife in a car accident, allowing him to disassociate himself from his “outside” psyche for most of the week. But he becomes more curious about the workings of the company after his friend and manager Petey unexpectedly stops showing up for work, while a new employee seems determined to escape the office. He cue a lot of manipulation by his employer, unexplained kids, and a surprisingly violent nightclub.
Season 1 ended on a huge cliffhanger, with four of these rebellious ‘innies’ successfully activating their work psyches ‘remotely’, throwing themselves into the lives of their ‘outies’ and spreading the news of their cruel working conditions and ruining the Lumon’s reputation. just before a key vote on the wider implementation of the compensation procedure.
We hope to pick up where the first season ended, when this remote activation was interrupted by the employee supervisor. That leaves Irving knocking on his office girlfriend’s door, Dylan caught red-handed in Lumon’s control room, “Helly” onstage at a Lumon gala after revealing the company’s practices, and Mark in his sister’s house after freeing his wife. and working as an employee of Lumon. There’s a lot going on at once, and all of these people’s ‘outies’ will suddenly find themselves back in the room within an hour of their innies taking over.
We expect Season 2 to focus more on the world outside of Lumon Industries, with Helly’s gala outburst and Mark’s discoveries leaking some company secrets to the public. But it wouldn’t be Severance without, well, separation, and we’re sure to see the cast flit between their ‘innies’ and ‘outies’ at times, especially if it comes to further investigating the labyrinthine corridors of Lumon’s office, which surely they contain many secrets that we have not yet unearthed.
speaking to Variety (opens in a new tab) On what fans can expect from the upcoming season, Stiller joked, “I think the most important thing is how do you keep all of those things in terms of the feel of the show, while also expanding the world from the end of the last one?” . episode. We’ve brought Mark, Irving and Helly to the surface, and I think those are stories that people are going to be interested in. So, it’s going to be finding that balance.”
During a Comic-Con 2022 panel (for time magazine (opens in a new tab)), Erickson added: “I’m excited to go into Season 2, build the world a little bit more and be able to see, with this little change in reality, what the different ramifications would be. We didn’t want it to feel like science fiction in the sense classic. We wanted it to be much more realistic.”
Oh, and hope there’s some kind of reveal about those goats in season 1. When asked if his appearance at Comic-Con had any significance, Erickson simply replied, “Yes.”
Severance Season 2 Trailer
There is no official Severance Season 2 trailer yet, but we did get a very brief sneak peek during Apple’s September 14, 2022 iPhone event.
The footage only shows Helly disembarking from a subway train, either on her way home or to her Lumon office, thus revealing nothing about the show’s second season. Still, it’s a fun little Easter egg-esque clip, and it shows how much Apple leans on another of its flagship shows (like Ted Lasso before it) to lure subscribers to its streaming service.
Once an official trailer is out, we’ll update this section.
Will we have more seasons of Severance?
Are more tickets coming after Severance season 2? It seems likely. Severance is one of the best TV shows to land on Apple’s streaming platform since its launch in 2019, and the company won’t want to sleep on a certified hit. It has a 97% certified “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes, has already won multiple awards, and is sure to be a big winner on the 2023 awards circuit, too.
Ted Lasso, Apple’s other blockbuster original series, is gearing up for a third season, and we’re hoping Severance gets similar treatment. Really, it all depends on how Severance Season 2 goes, but the quality of the storytelling so far bodes well for later seasons, and Lumon Industries’ many unexplained mysteries should provide enough for a few dozen episodes before it’s over. everything runs out. Just don’t expect Severance season 3 to arrive until 2025 at the earliest.
